Picking a sauna size feels overwhelming at first. You want the health benefits but you’re worried about space, cost, and whether you’ll actually use it.

Here’s the truth: the right size depends on your space, who’s using it, and how you plan to use it. That’s it.

Let me break down what High Tech Health offers and help you figure out what works.

The Sizes High Tech Health Offers

High Tech Health makes saunas in three main sizes. Each comes in both the Transcend Foundation series and the smart sauna version.

1-Person (TR-1) Dimensions: 37½” W x 39¼” D x 77½” H

2-Person (TR-2 or TRS-2) Dimensions: 48¼” W x 46¼” D x 77½” H

3-Person (TR-3 or TRS-3) Dimensions: 67¾” W x 46¼” D x 77½” H

All three heights are the same. The difference is width.

1-Person: Tight Spaces, Solo Sessions

The 1-person sauna takes up about 3 feet by 3 feet. You can stick it in a bedroom corner, a bathroom, even a walk-in closet.

The pros:

  • Fits almost anywhere
  • Cheapest option to buy
  • Uses only 960 watts (less than a kilowatt)
  • Plugs into a standard 15 amp outlet
  • Easy to move if you relocate
  • Takes about 45 minutes to set up

The cons:

  • You’re in there alone, always
  • Less room to stretch out
  • If you’re over 6 feet tall, it works but feels snug

The diagonal bench design actually gives you more leg and elbow room than you’d think. The glass door and side windows help too. You don’t feel trapped.

This size works if you live in an apartment, have limited square footage, or know you’ll be the only one using it. It’s also great if you want a dedicated wellness space that’s just yours.

2-Person: The Sweet Spot

The 2-person model is the most popular for good reason.

The pros:

  • Room for two adults comfortably
  • Still fits in most bedrooms or spare rooms
  • You can stretch out when using it solo
  • Uses 1.6 kilowatts (costs a few dollars a month to run)
  • Standard 15 amp outlet works fine

The cons:

  • Takes more floor space than the 1-person
  • Costs more upfront
  • Two people sitting might feel close if you’re not comfortable with that

This is the one most people buy. You get flexibility. Use it alone and you have plenty of space. Use it with a partner or friend and you both fit without bumping elbows.

If you’re deciding between a 1-person and 2-person, go with the 2-person unless space is really tight. The extra room matters more than you think.

3-Person: When More Is Better

The 3-person sauna is the widest option at almost 68 inches.

The pros:

  • Three adults can sit comfortably
  • Massive space if you use it solo
  • Great for families
  • Good for taller people who want to stretch
  • Same depth as the 2-person (46¼”)

The cons:

  • You need the floor space (about 5½ feet wide)
  • Requires a 20 amp outlet
  • Uses 1.9 kilowatts (still cheap to run but slightly more than the 2-person)
  • Costs the most
  • Might be overkill if you’re always using it alone

The 3-person works best if you have a dedicated wellness room, a spacious basement, or if multiple family members will use it regularly. It’s also nice if you like doing stretches or yoga poses in your sauna.

How To Actually Decide

Stop overthinking it. Ask yourself these questions:

Where will it go? Measure your space. Then measure again. You need 6 inches above the sauna for ventilation because High Tech Health uses active ventilation (an exclusive that only we offer – and let me tell you, it’s an amazing benefit.) Also leave a bit of room to move around it, just for convenience sake.

Who’s using it? If it’s just you, the 1-person works. If you and a partner will use it (either together or separately), get the 2-person. If you have kids who want to join or you host friends regularly, the 3-person makes sense.

How often will you use it? If you’re committed to daily sessions, size up. You’ll appreciate the extra comfort. If you’re testing the waters, start smaller.

What’s your electrical setup? The 1-person and 2-person plug into standard 15 amp outlets. The 3-person needs a 20 amp outlet. Check what you have before you buy.

What About The Smart Sauna?

High Tech Health also makes the Transcend Smart Sauna series in 2-person and 3-person sizes. Same dimensions as the Foundation models but with a touchscreen, app control, personalized protocols, meditations and other in session activities.

The smart features don’t change the size decision. Pick your size first, then decide if you want the tech.

Energy Costs Are Lower Than You Think

People worry about electricity bills. Don’t.

The 1-person uses 960 watts. The 2-person uses 1.6 kilowatts. The 3-person uses 1.9 kilowatts. At average electricity rates, you’re looking at pennies per session. Even if you use it daily for a month, it’s less than $5 added to your bill.

Traditional saunas use 6 to 9 kilowatts and take forever to heat up. That’s where the cost really hits. But our infrared saunas, especially with our ultra-efficient heaters are perfect for any size you choose.

Space Planning Tips

Basements work great. So do spare bedrooms, large bathrooms, or converted closets. Some people even use insulated garages, though if it gets below 60°F regularly, talk to High Tech Health first.

The saunas don’t need plumbing or external ventilation. They plug in and go. That’s it.

The Bottom Line

Most people should buy the 2-person. It gives you room to grow without eating up too much space.

Buy the 1-person if space is seriously limited or you know you’ll never share it.

Buy the 3-person if you have the room and multiple people will use it.

The health benefits are the same across all sizes. They all use the same patented low-EMF heaters, the same active ventilation, the same sustainable wood construction.

Size just determines comfort and how many bodies fit inside.

Pick what works for your life today. You can’t make a wrong choice here. In general, I tend to lead people towards the largest size that fits in their space. Customers never complain that they got “too large” a sauna.
