Five things to check before you order

Every Transcend sauna is built the same way, in three sizes, for indoor rooms. Before you choose a model, check five things about the spot you have in mind:

  • Floor space. 37½ to 67¾ inches wide, depending on the size. See each size.
  • Ceiling height. Every model is 77½ inches tall, and the solid roof is lifted onto the walls, so you need about 6 inches above it where you assemble it: a ceiling of 83½ inches or more. More on the ceiling.
  • An outlet within 6 feet. Every model has a 6-foot cord and runs on 120V. One- and two-person saunas use a standard 15 amp outlet; three-person saunas need a 20 amp circuit.
  • A level floor. Concrete, carpet, tile, hardwood: any level surface works.
  • Indoors. A room in your home, or an insulated garage. Not outside, even under cover.

Check your room

Measure these four things

Measure the spot you have in mind, and the way in. Five minutes with a tape measure now saves a lot of trouble on delivery day.
Ceiling

Room to put the roof on

Every Transcend sauna is 77½ inches tall, and its roof is one solid piece you lift onto the walls. That takes about 6 inches above, so assemble it where the ceiling is 83½ inches or more. Once the roof is on, you can slide it into a spot with less headroom.

  • Assemble it under a ceiling of 83½ inches or more
  • Where it stands: a few inches above, for the roof’s ventilation fan
  • Basements: measure under beams, ducts and pipes
Power

An outlet within 6 feet

The power cord is 6 feet long, so plan the spot around an outlet. Every model runs on 120V household power.

  • 1- and 2-person: a standard 15 amp outlet
  • 3-person: a dedicated 20 amp circuit
  • Plug it straight into the wall, not an extension cord or power strip
Floor

Any level surface

It can stand on concrete, carpet, hardwood or any other floor, as long as it’s level. The panels interlock closely, and a level floor keeps them square.

  • Concrete, carpet, hardwood and more
  • No plumbing, drain or floor preparation
  • Check it with a level where it will stand
The way in

A 30-inch doorway

It arrives flat-packed, and the panels fit through a standard 30-inch doorway. Measure the doors, halls and stairs between your driveway and the room, including clearance for maneuvering panels around tight corners.

  • Delivery is curbside: you bring the boxes in
  • Two people to carry and assemble it
How delivery works
Indoors only

Transcend saunas are made for indoor rooms.

Not patios, decks or porches, even under cover, and using one outdoors voids the warranty. A garage works if it’s insulated, and best if it’s climate-controlled.
Why indoors

Untreated wood belongs inside

Our saunas are solid, untreated wood. That’s deliberate: when a sauna heats up, whatever is on the wood heats up with it, so we leave it bare.

Bare wood isn’t made for the weather. Outdoors, rain, humidity, sun and freezing nights would make the panels swell, shrink and crack, and the interlocking joints would stop fitting. Weatherproofing would protect it, but that treatment would give off fumes every time the sauna heated up.

The roof isn’t watertight, and the heaters, controls and Smart touchscreen are made for a dry indoor room. Cold outside air works against the heaters, too: the sauna takes longer to warm up and may not reach its full temperature.

Using a Transcend sauna outdoors voids the warranty.

Rooms in your home

Bedrooms, basements, home gyms, offices and living spaces: anywhere heated and dry, with a level floor and an outlet in reach.

Garages

An insulated garage works, and a climate-controlled one works best. A cold garage means a longer warm-up and a lower top temperature.

  • Insulated walls, ceiling and door
  • Heated or climate-controlled, ideally
  • A level spot: garage floors often slope

Outdoors

Covered or not. The untreated wood, the roof, the heaters and the electronics are all made for indoor rooms, and outdoor use voids the warranty.

  • Patios, decks and porches
  • Uninsulated sheds and outbuildings
  • Unheated three-season and screened rooms
Why indoors only

Garages

Insulated, and ideally climate-controlled

A garage can be a good home for a sauna if it’s insulated, and better still if it’s heated or climate-controlled. The room around a sauna matters more than you might think.

Our heat-up time, about 15 minutes from 70°F to 100°F, is measured in a room at about 70°F. In a cold garage the sauna starts further back and loses heat through its walls faster, so it takes longer to warm up and may not reach its top temperature of 158°F.

Before you choose your garage, check for:

  • Insulation in the walls, the ceiling and the garage door.
  • Heat or climate control through the seasons you’ll use it.
  • A dry, level spot. Garage floors often slope toward the door or a drain.
  • An outlet within 6 feet, on the right circuit for your size.

Questions

Specs and placement questions

Do the Foundation and Smart models have the same dimensions?

Yes. The TR and TRS in each size share the same cabin, so the dimensions, power needs and cord are the same. The Smart models add a touchscreen. See sizes and specs.

How much ceiling height do I need?

Every model is 77½ inches tall, and the roof is one solid piece you lift onto the walls. That takes about 6 inches of room above, so assemble it where the ceiling is 83½ inches or more. Where it stands, leave a few inches above the roof for the ventilation fan. A standard 8-foot ceiling has room for both. In a basement, measure under beams, ducts and pipes.

Can I assemble it in one spot and move it into place?

Yes. If the spot you want has less headroom, build the sauna nearby where there’s room to lift the roof on, then slide it into place. Leave a few inches above the roof for the ventilation fan.

How long is the power cord?

6 feet, on every model. Choose a spot within 6 feet of the outlet you’ll use, and plug the sauna straight into the wall rather than into an extension cord or power strip.

What kind of outlet do I need?

One- and two-person saunas plug into a standard 120V, 15 amp household outlet. Three-person saunas need a dedicated 120V, 20 amp circuit; if you don’t have one where you want the sauna, an electrician can add one.

Can I put my sauna outside, or on a covered patio?

No. Transcend saunas are for indoor use only, and using one outdoors voids the warranty. The wood is untreated on purpose, so nothing on it heats up with the sauna, and untreated wood isn’t made for rain, humidity, sun or frost. The roof isn’t watertight either. See why indoors only.

Can I put it in my garage?

Yes, if the garage is insulated, and ideally heated or climate-controlled. A cold garage means a longer warm-up and a lower top temperature. Check the floor is level where it will stand, because garage floors often slope. See garages.

What kind of floor does it need?

Any level surface: concrete, carpet, hardwood and more. It doesn’t need plumbing, a drain or any floor preparation.

Can it go in a basement?

Yes, if it’s dry and the ceiling is high enough. Basement ceilings are often lower than the rest of the house, so measure under any beams, ducts or pipes: you want 83½ inches or more where you assemble it, and a few inches above the roof where it stands.

Will it fit through my doors?

It arrives flat-packed, and the panels fit through a standard 30-inch doorway. Delivery is curbside, so measure the doors, halls and stairs between your driveway and the room. See how delivery works.

Does it need plumbing, a drain or any changes to the room?

No. An infrared sauna makes no steam, so there’s no water, drain or room modification, and ventilation is built into the sauna.

Can I move it later?

Yes. It comes apart the way it went together, so you can move it to another room or your next home.

How much does it weigh?

Roughly 280 to 440 lb, depending on the size and the wood: 1-person saunas 280–310 lb; 2-person saunas 340–360 lb; 3-person saunas 400–440 lb. It arrives as four boxes on one pallet, and two people can carry it in piece by piece.

What’s the warranty?

10 years residential and 5 years commercial on the sauna. On the Smart models, the display has 3 years residential and 1 year commercial. It covers indoor use only: using the sauna outdoors voids it.

How long does it take to heat up?

About 15 minutes from 70°F to 100°F, in a room at about 70°F. A colder room takes longer. The maximum temperature is 158°F (70°C).
